The Science department at Padgate Academy, strives to deliver a rich and academic science curriculum for all pupils, rooted in first class teaching. We will encourage a sense of excitement and curiosity about the natural and built world, promoting enquiring, resilient learners who are able to make informed decisions in modern society and have ambition to pursue higher education and careers in science.
Our 5-year science curriculum develops thinking, interpreting and evaluating rather than simply memorising scientific fact. It is our conviction that this will make science accessible for all. It is not enough to simply recall facts, it is more important to understand and appreciate how that knowledge was derived, how it came to be discovered and accepted by the scientific community. Within our curriculum, there is a focus on component knowledge, but with the intent that more knowledge enables you to be a better and deeper thinker.
The curriculum will encourage our pupils to be reasonable and logical thinkers in an often uncertain modern world, where scientific understanding influences much of contemporary society and politics. Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils should be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation.
Our curriculum is aspirational and provides the foundations for further study at A-Level and beyond. This is the case for all pupils, as it is vital they see going on to college, higher apprenticeships and university as possible future pathways.
Consequently, through empowering our students, we foster a love of English as a subject and enable students to perceive its value to them. By equipping our students with knowledge, vocabulary and meaning, we enable our students to unlock the next challenge within their sequenced journey through English at Padgate.
Through this, we equip our students with the skills and knowledge for them to access the next stages of their life after school. Some may go onto an education and career within English, however, whatever our students’ choices, their study of English at Padgate Academy is designed to benefit them regardless of course or career choice.
We want to ensure students have the confidence to express their opinions and perspectives whilst also understanding and appreciating the opinions and perspectives of others. We champion the oracy and writing skills that will enable them to express themselves articulately and creatively with a sophisticated vocabulary toolbox. We also develop a reading proficiency that enables them to appreciate a wide variety of English literature through their own reading and the study of texts in class. We also aim to develop an understanding and appreciation of the wider world outside Warrington and how they contribute to it.
