Key Stage 4 Photography

The Photography AQA GCSE course at Padgate Academy aims to develop students’ creative and technical skills in photography. Through practical projects and theoretical study, students will explore different styles, techniques, and digital processes, building a strong portfolio of work.

The course encourages artistic expression, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of visual storytelling, while equipping students with the knowledge to analyse and appreciate photography as an art form. It prepares students for further education or careers in creative industries by fostering both technical competence and creative vision.

In Components 1 and 2, students will explore portraiture, location photography, studio photography, and experimental imagery. They will develop skills in lighting, composition, and digital processes while drawing inspiration from historical, social, and cultural contexts.

Students will learn to communicate ideas through image manipulation and visual elements like colour, texture, and form. They will also master techniques such as aperture, depth of field, and digital or darkroom processes, using a range of media to support their creative intentions.
